Just had a new sensor fitted, cus the diagnostic' puter said i needed one cus the abs light was on.

Me mate fitted it cuz i'm bone idle and thick, but he said the air gap'll need to be adjusted before i can get the light to be knocked out on the dash in readiness for the dreaded mot.

So. How do you adjust this bloody air gap then ey? Do i need to rummage around for me old plugs 'n' points feeler gauge again then?

Bloody abs. Hate it. It's for tarts.

Tap them in with a hammer and punch -they set their own "running clearance".

Dead technical then ey?

Tried that on this heap of electrical crap last year, but it didn't fix it.

I have recently had a sensor replaced due to a dash light coming on therefore not passing the MOT.
I have continually had this problem with this one sensor on the front for a couple of years. For the last MOT I bit the bullet and got the local dealer(Frog Island) to sort it. Nearly £400 lighter - computer diag check to identify
it was this sensor nearly £40, supply and fit new sensor, computer diag check to set air gap another £40.
Approx 1 month later, light appears again, I now have the same problem come the next MOT.
Can I set the air gap myself ?
Hammer & punch ?
How is the sensor held in position ?
Any advice would be appreciated

400 snotters?!
You get the the limited edition diamond encrusted one then?


£140 here, and i thought that was a bloody rip off....and i told then so. No charge for fittin cus i'm a bully.
£28 for the diao check and nowt for the reset.

Had this problem on a few now and ended up changing complete hub.
Sensor runs on inside of bearing on the sensor ring clogs with grease.
Hubs arn't cheap about 150+**** mans bit but they do come with new sensor fitted and had no probs since started fittng them.

Regarding the hub, if you have any wear at all, the sensor ring can push the sensor slightly further away on the " high " side then the sensor is further away on the " low " side, and your light comes on. You can tap them in to your hearts content but they can get pushed ever so slightly out straight away as they are almost touching the sensor ring.
Alternatively you can do what i did when i got fed up, remove the ABS fuses and remove the bulb from the instrument cluster. No ABS light, no Mot problems.

I had same problems on a v8, tried sensors (twice) b ut ended up with 2 front hubs. for my mot i took the dash out (2 screws) and put some black insulation tape over the light.
