Always hankered after a Landy. I have committed myself to one and need reassurance - I will explain.

I live in the Mountains of Portugal and had the chance to buy A Land Rover (I believe Series 11) 109. Year 1964. Belonged to the local Fire Brigade and currently has a water tank on the back. Verified no rust and will come with Portugeuse equivalent of MOT. Done 18,600 kms from new.
Headlights are set into front grille as opposed to wings.

I would appreciate any points to look for. Comes with a driving cab but i would like to replace with soft top - wheres a good place to buy?

I am a Landy virgin and havent driven anything without syncromesh for 40 years - dont want to wreck gear box on day one !

Please help

Hi
and welcome to landys
In answer to your question.
Rag tops

Not the only supplier but a good start.

As for your other question look out for RUST HOLES
Get under with a small hammer and tap everything.

Read everything you can on buying a Landy

Dont worry about the gearbox its quite strong and it should be ok with a bit of crashing untill you get the hang of it.

No doubt will be bleating for help on a daily basis.

Nice One.. Portugal and a landrover :)
Good on you,, spent some time in Monchique a while back. what a great country. Lucky bugger.

Welcome to Landyzone mate. You ask away - someone in here should be able to help. Don't forget to show us some photos of yer Rover :)

When I've sussed out how to upload a pic - I'll post one.
Slight confusion. The headlights are on the grill - does this make it a series 11 as opposed to a 11a. Year of registration here when new was 1964. Petrol engine which I am told takes 4 star. If no conversion has been done will this do any damage ?

Thanks to all for your interest - great site

Cant figure out how to compress phot to upload - still working on it - hope Landys are easier to work on than these b****y computers

Looks like its sorted. Photo with her who had to be persuaded that my mid life crisis had to be fed
