This tale might stop somebody falling into the same predicament.
I have a 3 dr 99(T) FL , A winter or so back when the mornings are frosty I had a brainwave, as my car isn't garaged overnight ,it was covered in frost so After I had started it I decided to lock the car while it was running so's I could go back in and have a cup off tea while it was clearing itself. After about 5-10 mins i came out of the house to my car on the street and tried to unlock my running car but it wouldn't open, the fob just wouldn't open it so I tried the key but it wouldn't unlock the door , also tried the key lock on the tailgate but to no avail. My targa roof is the black plastic type and ended up fitting a hook to a cane pole and lifting up the passenger side roofpanel at the corner and pulling the drivers door handle to get into the car . Total pain in the A*se!
Don't know if this a fault with my car only, but maybe it will stop another FL owner getting caught out.

Saw a post similar to this a while back. The CCU don't understand how you can lock the car from the outside with the engine running. Generally best avoided. Also worth mentioning that leaving the car with the engine running is illegal and invalidates the insurance. Fit a preheater.

I did this on a regular basis this last winter with no problems. Unlock the car, start engine, heater on, seats on, use button on console to lock passanger door, close door and lock drivers door with key blade.

I did however, test the use of the second key with the window open so if there was a problem I could still get in!!

Maybe its an updated CCU on newer models (mines an 04 TD4 Van).

And yes, it is illegal if on a public road, not so if your on your drive.

Tried to lock mine with a second key and it doesn't work. (53 plate FL1 5 door) Turned key both ways but it would not lock. Maybe different firmware in mine?
Anyone else trying to lock while warming up?

Just read about the disco 2 having a bathrobe setting using testbook to allow them to lock. Bit extreme and expensive to connect testbook to set it up.
Wonder if freelander is same
