On the top of our Freelanders gearbox (auto) there is a vent-pipe. Should this be connected to something or just left open ?

Behind the engine on the drivers side I found a black steel pipe or rod that comes up vertical and ends in a 'U' bend just behind the oil-filler cap. What is it ?

Also in the same area there is a fuel-type filter attached to a vacuum tube on one end and open on the other. What is its function ?

Thanks in anticipation.

Bonjour Monsieur Bugsy,

The first pipe is the g/box vent pipe - leave it as it is - open.

The little plastic fuel-type filter is the turbo vent pipe filter which prevent crap entering - it should not be connected to anything but should be hanging with the open end pointing down.

Some peeps have thought it should be attached to the black metal pipe you mention which is the IRD vent pipe. Leave it alone too.

Note: no bad language here - only foreign ones :D

À bientôt. :)

Wish I'd listened in school now!!! Our French teacher was too ugly to look at, so I just swapped football stickers instead!!

That's good, because being a Scottish person - my Welsh is probably just up to your 5 year old's level. Much more of this and I'll have exhausted my vocabulary.

Best regards, :blabla: :D
