A-FRAME BALLJOINT RENEWAL

Mines was needin’ renewed so here’s how Ah did it….

First Ah jacked the back axle up and stuck it on a couple of stands…

To see the A-frame balljoint…

Ah took out the split pin..

Then usin’ a 30mm socket on a long extention bar, ah removed the castle nut and washer….

Next Ah used a couple of 19mm spanners to remove the two bolts that hold the arms to the fulcrum….

(Ah’m glad Ah copper greased the bolts the last time ah had this apart ;) )..

Then usin’ a suitable drift (or balljoint splitter) Ah knocked the fulcrum and balljoint out…

Now for some fun!!!
Ah removed the two 13mm bolts that hold the balljoint to the fulcrum, gave the other side a guid wire brushin’ to try and get some of the muck from around the joint then gave it a guid soakin’ in GT85 and left it to soak in for a bit

Next it was a case of stickin’ the fulcrum in a big vice and beatin’ the hell out of it with a big hammer and impact socket!!!….

It’s movin’…..

Gave it another soakin’ in GT85 and left it for another wee bit (just to catch me breath again!)…

Beat it a few more times until it finally came out…..

Ah gave the fulcrum a really guid clean with a wire brush and then gave it a wee lick of paint to tart it up a bit….

Aframeballjoint015.jpg

Once the paint had dried Ah stuck some copper grease on the balljoint and used two longer bolts to make sure it lined up properly in the fulcrum…

When Ah was happy that everything lined up properly, Ah used my old hub nut spanner with a block of wood on top and hammered the balljoint in….

Aframeballjoint017.jpg

And stuck the new 13mm bolts back in….

Aframeballjoint011.jpg

before givin’ it another paint to cover the metal…

Then it’s just a case of stickin’ the fulcrum and balljoint back into the axle, stickin’ the big washer and castle nut back on loosely, stickin’ the two bolts fur the arms back in, tighten them up then torque up the castle nut, stick the split pin and lowerin’ the bus back down.

That’s it, job done;):D
