Evening steve, and :welcome:

Pleased to here you have seen the light about the vws, bloody orrible things.
Nice Landy! Ive had them before, 4/203 is a good engine for a series if you don't need to do a lot of long distance. Careful of the overdrive, Perkins are very torquey, and sometimes break them.

cheers for the welcome ime suprised the overdrive still works to be fair i drove it from bolton to midlands without going up the gears and drive in the corect manner ups :) it was a long jurney but it made it 55mph all the way

Make sure od is kept topped up with oil to the mark on the dipstick, only use it on 3rd and fourth high, and take it easy on the pedal as you pull away. That will give it the best chance of survival.
That's about right, just cruise at 50-55. There is plenty of power, but the engines only rev to about 2500 rpm, so the gearing doesnt allow more speed.
Good news is the power characteristics are great off road, the engines are almost indestructible because they are all gear driven, and they are economical, you will struggle to get under 30 mpg, even towing.
