My 97 Explorer has recently put herself into 4wd low. I can't seem to get
her out of it. I've clutched, changed from 4 high to low, backed up,
drove through the snow,(didn't get stuck), and still it will not
disengage. There are three positions on the switch, auto, high and low.
Any suggestions on how to get her out of it?

Try backing down the whole street and half way down try and change it
then go all the way down the street. If it doesn't work you my have a
more serious problem.

Thanks, I tried that as well to no avail. I had to take her to the shop
and it turned out that yes, there was a problem. The dash indicator was
saying it was in four low but the shop said it was stuck in four high.
They cleaned the wires, which were very corroded. I haven't had the
chance to try it out yet. Now I think she's idling too high. I'll have
to look that up in my Haynes book. Thanks again and have a good day.
