Hi all,

A couple years ago I bought a 96 Geo Tracker 4 dr with 98,000 miles. I had
to have the trans rebuilt, and a new clutch installed. I bought an extra
computer because told me mine was bad. I never changed it out and the
light went out so I believe there was just a bad connection or some dirt.
The bulb is good btw. I've also had to replace the wheel bearing, front
and rear, on the right side.

Anyway it has 210,000 miles on it now. It's starting to leak a lot of oil,
front and rear seals, but still runs strong.

Are oil leaks common at 200,000 miles?

How many miles should I expect from the little engine?

I'm afraid that if I dump money into the engine it will die. I have never
had the valves adjusted. I had a friend that lost 3 datsun/toyota pickups
after he had the valves adjusted.

I bought this Tracker after reading the people's posts in this newsgroup.
I have been very happy with it. I was glad it is a 4 dr too. It has come
in very handy.

Thanks in advance for your opinions,
Steve

Just figure how much oil you would hvae to buy to exceed the repair
cost. I'll bet it is cheaper to buy more oil (hey, get it in the
55-gallon drum, much cheaper that way...) than to try to fix a tired
old ride that has no real value anyway. It's ten years old, it was
never a premium ride, so just milk it for all you can without spending
tons of money...

But, that is IMHO!

If you have driven 112,000 miles since last clutch repair, chances are you
are going to need a new clutch anyways soon. That would be a good time to
get the rear seal replaced. The front seal is easy to get to. Should not
take more than a couple of hours. BTW, it makes absolutely no sense that
adjusting the valves cause the motor to fail assuming those valves need
adjustments. Done it many times before on various cars.
