Normal feel the sound has started happening when i just let off the gas now I dont even have to apply the brakes and it will continue to make the noise until i get to like 10 to 15 mph and it will make the whole car shake then it will slowly stop. Its like it gets in a trance or something not sure im starting to think its not safe to drive but i have no other choiceIs it kicking back through the pedal when pressed or just normal feel to the pedal.
There is no movement in the wheels when they are jacked up i have no way of jacking the car completely off the ground to spin the tires. Not sure how to check the oil in the front diff if you could elaborate on that a little moreIf the wheel bearing goes it may lock that wheel up. Is there any movement in the front wheels if you jack them off the ground? Can you spin it and listen behind the wheel?
Guess the other option might be the front diff. Any oil in that? Anyone know if it is possible to remove the front prop and see if that makes a difference?
Get underneath and you will see a filler plug half way up the diff, use a 1/2 inch rachet to remove it, if oil comes out it's full if not top it upThere is no movement in the wheels when they are jacked up i have no way of jacking the car completely off the ground to spin the tires. I checked it just a bit ago and it was full.. Anyone got any other ideas here. The noise will stop as soon as i give it gasGet underneath and you will see a filler plug half way up the diff, use a 1/2 inch rachet to remove it, if oil comes out it's full if not top it up
I had a failed wheel bearing, it was noisy but no movement at the wheel
Don't think so. gave all my Classic parts cat's and manuals away to my son when I gave him my last ClassicYeah, wheel bearings on these seem to be tricky to pick up. ABS sensor light seems to be most common symptom on the P38 other than the noise. I think that's probably a sign of a solid product? Are the hubs the same on the Classic?
Yes as soon as I plant my foot back down it goes awaySo it makes that noise if you take your foot off the gas but goes away as soon as you plant your foot?
@wammers or @jamesmartin might have an idea.
Well as I said before its not just doing it when i brake when I let off the gas it makes that noise and I can feel the vibration on my feet I don't have to brake and I noticed my car does sway when i let off the gas and also when i accelerate at higher speeds. And the noise also seems to stop when I push the gas peddle. Not heard a noise like that. If the brake pedal feels O.K.the steering doesn't pull one way or another when the brakes are applied I wouldn't necessarily suspect a wheel bearing.
As already suggested, the noise sounds like something rubbing on a tyre - if this is the case get under the car and make a very careful check, it may be better to pull each wheel off and have a good look around. Have a look at all the suspension bushes and see if there is any movement in the axles. Check the routing of the brake pipes, abs cables etc. look carefully at the INSIDE tyre walls and see if there are any marks or scuffs. As to why this would happen when braking could be that as the brakes are applied and the body pitches down a wire or cable can touch a tyre or possibly the change in load allows something in the suspension to move so there is contact and a noise.
Another possible for that noise could be a stuck abs sensor contacting the abs ring but would have thought the noise would be much more harsh and probably different abs fault code.
HTH
??prop shaft uj?
Yes they can squeel like a stuck virgin.Best jack up one wheel front then rear, slide underneath and get someone to rock the lifted wheel. If you cannot see any play in the u/j then hold it and see if you feel any play.
usually a sign of a pinion bearing wearing, with the crown wheel been a lot larger than the pinion when power is put through from cw to pinion as on over run more pressure is put on pinion bearingsSo it makes that noise if you take your foot off the gas but goes away as soon as you plant your foot?
