My new battery went dead the other day. I started investigating the problem with a multimeter and found that it was charging at 13.8 volts, no problem there. I turned the ignition of, disconnected the + side battery cable to check the amp draw. with everything turned off, the amp reading was .04, that sounded reasonable. Then i noticed after a short time the amps went to .90, stayed for a short time and went back to .04. after further investigation i realized that a real faint huming noise was comming from the alternator that coincided with the amp fluctuation. disconected the alternator fuse and the huming noise stopped and the amps went back to .04. Let the discussions begin! thanks, john
 
know idear, can only guess that your diode pack is breaking down for some reason (maybe heat). just a shot in the dark guess though.
 
Hi get your self down to lucas electrical and buy a new regulator/diode pack costs about £36.00 had to get 1 for my car last year it done the same as yours been ok since,tiga
 
well thanks for the input, must have been bad diodes. I replaced the alternator and all is well, no more drain! now my srs light is on, guess i'll have to figure that one out now.
 
Bloody landrovers!!!! I have checked the voltage output across the battery and it is charging at 14.2v and with all the electrical curcuits I can muster it still charges at 13,6v. Why o why are all my lights inside and out pulsing in time with the engine???????????????

just a daft shot in the dark is one of the battery connectors got a crack in it or is the wire in the connector abit lose sounds like some thing silly like that
