Am looking at fitting twin batteries on my Discovery V8 but the airbox is right where I want to put it.

What have others done with the airbox?

I've thought about a snorkel and coming out at the back of the ABS pump then relocating the washer bottle, this seems like a lot of work just for running 2 batteries as the snorkel wont really ever be put to test as I avoid water like most V8 owners.

if you don't offroad it you could simply just stick an air filter on the end of the MAF

Its an off road toy but nothing to serious.

Water + V8 = easy start and waiting, so save the effort and just stay dry.

I go axel/bumper deep but wouldn't want to be much deeper. Maybe it would be ok in deeper but I see no point in pushing my luck, all of the work I've done is more prevention not to push it to breaking point.

Its the same with the batteries I don't so much need 2 batteries but as am fitting a winch and do recoveries and I have them a few batteries sat around I figure why not fit one.

The boot was an option I looked at but would rather have it under the bonnet.

Throwing a snorkel on if you go off road just saves the oh **** moments you get I followed another d1 through water inch for inch and slipped off a rock and my drivers side went deep would have been a major issue if it was the other side. Drying out a dizzy is much much much better than swapping out an engine!

I agree with that, but looking at the snorkel kits they all seem to want the air box in its current location to which doesn't help.

I have no issues relocating the washer bottle and coming out behind the ABS pump but its finding a suitable kit that would also allow this.

I wouldn't really have that issue of the front end being deep enough to suck water as I say if it gets to the bumper thats plenty deep enough lol.

I have a k&n cone that im fitting into a cold air feed kit then running the feed hose into a home made snorkel ebay all the SS pipe I need for about 30 notes and the silicone wrap will be about 20 so much cheaper than a safari and will be 100% water proof. Then you have no fear of water ingress. Leaving the original box space open for the battery. I don't have abs so I am sticking mine out what looks like a premade blank for a snorkel, megajolt kit will sort ya wading woes out :-D

Plenty of room for everything if you just make a few changes

Open cone air filter in engine bay is disgusting for heat soak and should be avoided like the plague

An option is a 3.5 efi filter box which is metal so you can modify it and weld it, or fit a smaller inline air filter like a BMC CDA or similar.

never. Yet mine has for MoT because I tried to jet wash a washable panel filter and well oops
