I posted this in the defender section with no response. I then found this section and hope someone can help.
90 V8 DISTRIBUTOR/CARB Vacuum
My carb.vacuum pipes were disconnected recently i may have got them mixed up can anyone help?.
1986 90 v8 with a Lucas 35DM8 distributor fitted with vacuum advance and vacuum retard pipes.
There are three vacuum take off points to supply- vacuum advance, vacuum retard and the hot air vent in the air inlet pipe to carb.
Take off points are-
1-from the centre of the manifold.
2-from the top of Stromberg housing, taking its vacuum from before the buttrefly.
3-from underneath the carb housing, taking its vacuum from after the butterfly.
one of the hoses is fitted with a vacuum delay valve how does this work and how can you test it.
Delay valve. (See Attachment)
Has anyone any info on where these pipes are fitted and if i really need a vacuum retard.
.
At present i only have vacuum advance when the throttle is opened none at idle.
I have full retard at idle and none when the the throttle is opened at idle this causes the timing to retard to app10 degrees After Top Dead Centre. I think was for emission control when fitted with the detox pipes to the exhaust manifolds. I have removed these detox pipes and blanked off the holes so would it be best to leave the vacuum retard off?.
Any help or info would be most welcome or even an engine compartment photo with this setup.
