I've owned for a very short term a Def, and since the day i sold it i've been thinking to buy another. Today i've placed the order and i't will take a long (i'm located in Ecuador) time til it's arrival. I've heards that the ECU units get stolen and sold in "black market". Can a tunned ECU be ordered? My intention is to have 2, place the std one in case that happens.

I'd appreciate your suggestions in regards mantainance and drving.
Air filters, diesel filters, ECU tunning, rust prevention, and websites or mags to consult. ALSO ALTERNATIVE WAYS AND PLACES TO BUY spare parts, these are not necesarelly the synonim of affordable.
Thanks in advance 4 your replies and interest.

I am not to sure on the ECU, I am more of a mechanical injector pump type person!

Regarding the filters and things, oil and fuel I would change more regularly than they recommed, I change my oil & filter at about every 5000miles, and change my fuel filter maybe every year, or 4000ish, whichever comes sooner, air, change that when it looks dirty...

Stick in here, read the posts, you will learn a lot simply being involved in here.

change engine oil every 10k km, include oil filter and air filter and diesel filter. i'm on synthetic oil. gear oil every 40k km. it's in the serivce book if you buy yrs new.

yes you can just program another ecu to your vehicle, the same as if the original is faulty, it will learn all the security links, then just refit origianal, place ya spare in safe keeping, the only way it will be any good to any one though is if they have the security ecu aswell because they become a matched pair and cannot be programmed to another vehicle on there own

Have you never subbed over a storm Ecu,(defender or disco) to prove a running issue ? Think you are confusing F/L td4 bosch engine ecu and immobiliser ecu - they pair up.
