Hi all!

Trying to remove my centre muffler and replacing it with a straight through pipe today! 2005 90 TD5. Removing the fronts bolts was alright, but the ones on the back… well…. can’t consider them as bolts anymore haha. Any advice on removing them? Do you think I need to replace the exhaust aswell?

Thanks!

Looking at the state of those flanges I would say you are going to need a rear section too.

Oh Welcome too :),

Thank you!

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too! They’re crunchier than Colonel Sander’s chicken.

You can get a straight through rear section aswell but along with centre box delete it will make no difference to sound of the exhaust............unless you remove the cat.

Looks like the situation I found when I replaced the mid section earlier this year. (Puma, same mid and end sections as the TD5). I had a genuine, delivery milage take-off with genuine nuts, mid section which I had on the shelf for a few years knowing it would be needed one day. The rear section was still in great condition but the flange was a bit corroded, I used a thick gasket and lots of assembly paste to take up the slightly less than smooth surface on the rear section flange. Gasket not normally used there but I found one to fit, think it was for an Evo or Subaru or similar big bore type car. Pic of the nuts attached, alongside a good one, so you can see how I got them off with a hacksaw.

Td5 has a gasket between centre and rear box. I filed the flange so it was flat/smooth and used the gasket and a little bit of paste for good measure.

Quite right. Just had a look at the parts diagrams, as you say TD5 has a gasket. Diagrams for the tdci show a gasket on the 2.2 110 but not other versions. My 90 didn't have one when I took the old mid section out but it has one now.

Thanks all for you advice!

Decided to replace the rear exhaust pipe aswell as it is due soon anyways. Easiest way is to get a hacksaw and saw between the centre box and connection to the rear exhaust.

For anyone wondering; It sounds a bit fruitier. It now has this burble when accelerating. Not too loud. Just loud enough to notice but not too loud to be annoying.

Again, thanks all!
Chris
