Hello there!
This is my first time posting so lets give this a go!
I have a 1986 Ex-Military 90 and surprise surprise, one of the swivels is leaking. Now i've never done one before but have done quite a bit of research and prepared to get stuck in.

Firstly, is there any hints and tips that might help me along..?
Secondly, where do all you folk source parts from, Im thinking gaskets, seals etc.

Thanks for all your help :)

If there's no pitting on the swivels then you only need to replace the rear seals, personally I use Craddocks but only cos it's local to where I work

Hello Landydan,

Download a copy of the Rave manual you will find it very useful.

Are you going to replace the swivel itself ( is it damaged) or just the seal?

I get stuff from a multitude of places, Local LR specialists if they are handy and within a reasonable price. Otherwise If I know the part number I use LR direct , JGS 4x4 or the bay of flea.

Cheers

Drain oil and put one shot swivel grease in there instead. Saves a strip down and the job is done.

Try Land Rover for seals and gaskets, around the same price as OEM from internet sources.

Plenty of vids on you tube, take your time and enjoy it!
You will need a spring balance see pic below
Suppliers take yer pick, n google em for best price, just watch for P&P charges......
Paddocks
John Craddock
LR parts
Rimmer bros
Island 4x4
Ebay

You can download a workshop manual if you look about on the internerd.

Or just buy one, it will come in handy

Check the top swivel bush (Raiko) for any free play, this is movement in the wheel in the 12 o’clock / 6 o’clock when wheel is off the ground. I recently adjusted mine after an MoT fail and it sorted out the slow leak I had from the bottom of the swivel . I plan a full stripdown however when the weather gets better.
I use Dingocroft for parts as they are local to me and very knowledgeable, they do kits with all the seals and gaskets and they always try to source OEM and genuine.
