Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain outer (i.e. left and right) fabricated sections to repair the rear cross member on TD5 90? The center part of mine is quite solid, I could possibly try and fabricate replacement plates to weld on the outer sections but that would take far more time than if replacement plates are available, can't seem to find any on the net.
Alternately I might look to replace the crossmember with new one with short extensions as the chassis itself is in good nick. I tried to determine who produces a good replacement and see many varied reports on some as too flimsy, not well lined up requiring a lot of work to fit or typically commenting that the fixings that would be on an original crossmember weren't there, i.e. captive nuts that everything bolts to.
It seems that MIB Components near Warwick get high ratings but that was from some time ago and they don't seem to have a website, anyone know if there is still going or what a good alternative is?

Just get a new rear cross member, if chassis is good, it will be an easy weld job.
It slides on and you weld around the join, easier than messing about with plates and little panels etc.

thanks for your response and I know you are correct, replacing it is probably the best thing. Quite a bit of work involved though, dropping the fuel tank etc but I suspect it's the best solution.

I would still like any recommendations people have from their experience as to who is a good supplier of replacement crossmembers

Thanks again

John

had one off ebay: heavy duty, 3mm thick metal etc. now the rear looks like the metal is all peeling into thin sheets, not impressed really.

I got a fantastic heavy duty one with built in recovery points from Ian Dixon. He seems to be able to make them how you want. There is a bit of a wait as he’s very popular. Dixon Fabrications But I contacted him on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ian.dixon.351

This was it before it was fitted

Thanks for the picture, I looked up Dixon Fabrications website, serious piece of kit at 6 mm steel thickness, double what the majority are. Like most places their website says they are closed due to the virus understandably

Again, appreciate your response

Paddocks are the ones I use
Checked Paddocks website, they have some good stuff – unfortunately closed due to virus but I will investigate further when they reopen. Pictures on their website are rather limited in what you can see, shame they don't use better

Island 4x4 still operating, their site says slight delay to delivery times.

Nice bit of kit but doesn't look as good as a press brake one. Now that is a serious crossmember, unfortunately not available anymore afaik.

Yes well there was a reason I took that picture :D The only complaint I would make about the purchase. To speed things up I collected it but there was no one there when I arrived. They left it in a van outside and I had to transfer it to my vehicle. That might not have bothered you big strong guys :D But I struggled like hell with it.
