I have a 1994 def 90 that has a cracked diff pan on the rear axle. Rather than stripping it to weld on a new one (my welding is awfull) I was thinking just to replace the axle casing.

I have been told that a Disco axle is the same as my disc braked rear axle.... can anyone tell me true or false?

Also, does anyone know a welder in the Northampton area, that could do the welding job if I decide to go that route?

Yup, disco rear axles are the same as 300Tdi axles - straight swap.

The disco 1 rear axle will fit on your 94 defender(300?) no problem but it would be easier to get yer old pan removed and a new one welded in, it'll save ya taking the entire axle off..
LR150 Diff pan for 90 - weld on - with hole for filler plug - rear axle to KA930455
But having said that if you have a drum brake rear axle i would just buy a disco 1 axle an do a straight swap..i did.

steve parker also does a weld on one, and will fit it while you wait

is a disc braked rear axle...... 200tdi defender.....
