Ok, before anyone asks spent most of last night with Uncle Google and found no answers so here goes. :)

I have just replaced the brake shoes on my rear drum brakes and noticed the brake adjusters are completely seized. 2 questions:

1 - What is the best way to get them off to replace them, Am I going to need to cut them?

2 - Can someone explain to me in noob terms how they are supposed to work because looking at them I cannot figure out what they would do even if they were not seized?

Thanks

Jamie

they have snail cam on inside which rests on lug on brakeshoe (if shoes fitted correctly) turning cam pushes shoe out toward drum so that piston in cylinder doesnt have too much travel which makes pedal have too much travel and can lead to having to pump pedal to get brakes to stop you ,you can get adjuster replacement kit ,grind old adjusters rivet off and bolt new kit on

Thanks James, all makes a bit more sense now.

Will order up some replacements and get myself acquainted with a grinder :D

Take note of where the shoes go as the adjuster locates in a slightly different place on each shoe,
They are 'handed' in that the leading one is different to the trailing one.
At least mine are :)

yes landowners is good advice, I have fitted shoes incorrectly! If you need a check look at Busters photos and you can see which way shoes go from those

you cant get shoes wrong ,there only one way that shoes will fit with lug on shoe in line with adjuster pivot (rivet or bolt)
