Hi,I have recently added to my Series 3 88" Land Rover - with the purchase of a Stage 1,109" V8, the only thing is....it runs like a sack off poo! From Sutton On Sea,to the Shell Station on the A46 Grantham Junction.......it took over £33.00 in Petrol, and ran out half a mile from the garage, just after the bridge!
On the first £33.00 worth of petrol it ran on between 5 and 6 cylinders....sometimes struggling to get 40mph out of it...with a whooshing sound so loud ,you couldn't hear the engine! (Yet on tick over - the engine is sweet as a new one!),it fires on first turn with no pedal. When ticking over,it leaks petrol from the fuel tank inner layer...just 1 minute tickover makes a 3foot thin petrol puddle!! When I put another £30.00 in at the Shell Station,6 hills,Grantham Junction....it fired up quickly, and 'with light acceleration' slowly pulled to 60 - 65mph. It was now on about 6 or mainly 7 cylinders, but still would not take much acceleration....it struggled on the hills like a Robin Reliant!!
When I reached home, about 4 hours after leaving Sutton On Sea!, I put a bucket, and a litter tray under the tank,to catch the petrol, but in the morning, the containors were empty! .... with no real trace of a leak!?
Please could anyone help with the distributor sequence? or how to lable the Spark Plugs up? I pulled out the nearest 1 ,on the O/S ...and it was running VERY weak,as it is almost white in its colouration! , if anyone could offer some 'tips' on getting this 109" V8 running properly,I would be very greatfull ....... my 1980 Series 3,runs perfect, and did all of Billings Off Road Course 4 times last year!...and LRO's 'sand-pit' off road course in 12 minutes....with NO second time round allowed...unlike LRM's Billing when you were allowed round the course twice...and the mud run thrice! :)
Also..as LRO's Billing Run,deliberatly clashes with the 'New' Land Rover Max..at Newarke, what are the opinions of you other Land Rover owners....which will b the best one?? I love 'the Beer Tent at Billing'..and their fantastic off road course - lots of water, and lots of mud....but awful toilets, and infested showers....but GREAT Beer Tent!!
Newarke, will have a 'pub building'...hopefully not as crap as Peterborough's,where they throw away half of your drink....out of 'Bottles',whereas at Billing a good pint of Winter Diesel is assured...along with the music, etc!
Well anyone, the running problems on my 109" V8 Stage1 ....and Billing or Newarke?
all answers greatly received! :)
Thank you! Terry = exmunster@'nospamhere'aol.com
