Hi

Have done a search but looking for more info.

I am 6ft 6 and looking to get a Defender 90 1994. I am 18 and believe that I am still growing :(

I went to the Land Rover garage this morning and found the 2013 Defender too small, i could fit in with the door closed but feel that driving it would not be easy.

I have been looking at the Mud Rails and Bulkhead removal. Is the Rails alone likely to fix this problem or would i be needing to look at Bulkhead removal as well?

Are there any 6ft 6 people who drive Defenders? What do you do?

Thanks

Jack

Try a Discovery. Pound for pound cheaper as well.

Im 6'4" fit in nicely. Got a cage im mine too so no options of mud rails/bulk removal.

You sure you didnt fit lol

puma fenders are known to be more cramped.

Im 6'3 and i fit with loads of room. If it must be a defender then you could get a lower profile seat like a bucket, or a reclining bucket seat and use that. It will sit you down lower and increase your head room.

Am about 6'1 and don't find it much a problem, little lack of elbow room on the right side when the window is closed but doesn't bother me much. Tend to find it pretty comfortable, but I generally prefer the Defender driving position - sitting with your feet/legs more over the pedals then in-line with them like in smaller cars.

Did you find it truly too small or just didn't get on with the driving position?

6'4" and big boned :crazy_driver: Td5 90 - installed the mud rails and swapped out the steering wheel for a smaller version :)

Thanks for the replies guys!

Seat to roof was not a problem, it was what to do with my legs!

What is a Puma?

I think a bucket seat is something that may have to be done!

The lack of elbow space didnt bother me, as you say, most of time the window will be open so elbow can go out there.

I think i may have to do a bulkhead removal and mud rails, that will give me an extra 4 inches of leg room.

The problem i had was making use of the pedals. My knees were to close to the dash and was impossible to get to any of the pedals.

Thanks for the replies.

Dad bought the 1988 90 we've got now. He's also 6ft6. He only bought it for playing in. Felt like he was having to look out the very top of the window and that his legs got a bit uncomfortable if sat for a long time. Didn't fit the mud runners or remove the bh. I'm going to fit the runners tho, whilst I'm only 6ft, my legs are v.long and I find the position uncomfortable. He had a 2000 disco 2 and that was no problem.
Good luck!

What is a Puma?
Refers to the 'new engined' Defenders, more specifically to the post-2007 Ford Duratorq 2.4L that was codenamed 'Puma'. Don't know if it specifically still applies to the 2.2L engines that are now fitted but the name seems to have carried on.

With my seat fully back I don't have any problems with leg room and they are quite long. That said I have driven other Defenders that I have struggled to fit in, 110 Hi-cap found the space to be a bit cramped and a different 90 to mine but same layout, though maybe I hadn't adjusted the seat right in that one.

6.1ft with a 1993 90 was cramped at first, then removed the jack from behind the seat. Then managed to get the seat all the way back. Plus it's got the arm rest in the middle (not a 3rd seat) so I find myself having "the gangster Lean" so then I have no issue for space with my right arm.

Use it daily as my main vehicle

Ah ok, the one i am looking at is 1994 so hopefully will have more room.

The one i am looking at tomorrow has no middle seat so may also have to go for the lean.

I am sure coupled with rails and possibly bulkhead removal i should be good!

Thanks again for the replies!

That is a tall stack of sh@t......... does that included the bread combed on your head

I have Mud rails and BH removal bar, also smaller steering wheel.

I'm 6'6" 21st and I think it's surprisingly comfy.

Thanks Freddy, did you feel that the mud BH removal was worth the effort or was it not a great improvement.

Did the mud bars help on their own?

Thanks

a tall stack of ****???

Im bald on top :D well i shave.

Seriously though, a bucket seat is at least 6 inches shallower than your average and rover seat.

I did both at the same time and I have the seat reclined past where the bulkhead would be.
You can do the rails to start with and see if that good enough for you, it's only a few bolts and no cutting.

:lol::lol: ya a fat fooker also :lol::lol:

All muscle ;):p:D
