Driving along I went to put the car in 5th gear I went in then popped out. I tried to do it agin and it doesn't engage it just revs. Any ideas. Also the 2nd gear crunch when it goes it but it's been doing that for 6 months. It's a 1991 110 200tdi cheers

needs rebuild 2nd gear baulk ring worn out usually first to go as gets most stress ,unfortunately the metal from baulkring will have been running through bearings and other parts causing more wear unless youve been changing it very regulary, gth gear probably the same and synchro hub springs come out not allowing it to lock into gear unless gear isable to move backwards due to circlip failure , i would rebuild using new bearings baulk rings and rebuild of synchro hubs ,seals and consumables

Don't suppose you know roughly how much that would cost?.
Also when turning the car makes a squeaking sound like a belt but not sure which one or how to fix it. If you hadnt guest I'm new to this!

If the belt is cracked fit a new one only use a genuine one as the pattern ones squeak even when tight.
