Hello, My 53 disco 2 has become sluggish when in top gears. The auto box kicks down but there is no power to overtake or accelerate. I recently cleaned & re oiled the k&n cotton air filter. Would too much oil cause this? Also noticed a rattling towards the front of exhaust system. I have read posts on here about cat disintegrating and blocking exhaust gas from escaping properly, sometimes going back into engine. Are there any other causes such as ecu probs or gearbox & engine not talking to each other or timing belt not changed at correct mileage. Thanks for any advice.

I have a 2004 d2 td5 auto. She pulls well if the revs don't go over 3200. Once the torque converter has locked up around 53 mph she will pull nice and strongly up to 85+. Now if I'm just bimbling along, all OK but if I try to be a bit sporty or go for kick down on a hill and the revs rise over 3200 I loose power. Mine suffers with turbo over boost causing the ecu to put the car into get you home mode by reducing the fuel so not damaging the engine. You could have the same. I know mine is turbo over boost as I have a nanocom and I am slowly going through all the possibly problems that could be causing it.

I know that someone on here with a lot more knowledge will be able to help you. Also if you put on all the information in the first place you will get a better response to your questions. Hope my experience with my car helps.
 
My 02 td5 auto was very sluggish too. Felt like the turbo wasn't really working..I even went to my local independent land rover specialist who told me that the linkages were probably seized.
They weren't seized although we're a little sluggish but did move..I doused the linkages in wd40 but there was no great change. I was convinced the turbo wasn't operating as it should...anyway.. I bought a new actuator and fitted that...well I'll be jiggered with a splintery stick...:pound: it now goes like a train. The gear change is much smoother and the revs during acceleration seem much more controlled. It kicks down so much better and is a joy. Yahoo :amen:
