Hello All
Does the Disco 1 have permanent 4 wheel drive or does one have to select 4 wheel drive?
Just thinking of the winter and may need it - In addition I don't really understand the diff lock and how this all works so laymans terms would be great
Thanks, Scabby

permanent 4wd as transfer box has a center diff , diff lock lock the center diff ,when not in diff lock 1 wheel spinning can lose all drive , with center diff locked both axles are driven regardless so you need 1 wheel on each axle spinning to lose drive

To Jo public, yes it's permanent 4wheel drive.
The diff lock allows 50/50 drive to front and rear axles.

Although 'technically' speaking, it's only 2wheel drive :eek:

How does that work?

Sinario;

Both the N/S wheels in a very very slippery ditch with no traction)
With no CDL engaged, wheel with least resistance (either N/S front or N/S rear) will spin on it's own.
1 wheel drive.

Same sinario, WITH CDL engaged, both N/S Front And N/S rear wheels will spin leaving no drive whatsoever to either of the O/S wheels.
2 wheel drive.
