check yer selector spring and or the rubber boot as that might be fouling the movement of yer lever

Red lever forward, yellow knob up : high ratio 2wd selected
Red lever forward, yellow knob down : high ratio 4wd selected
Red lever back, yellow knob up: low ratio 4wd selected (always 4wd in low)

yer iv got that... just, when i push down the yellow knob it does nothing... it has worked when the car was up on axle props but it took lots of wiggleing of that yellow knob? could there be some dirt or something preventing the lever from moving down all the way?

I once had one that wouldn't engage. It turned out the yellow knob had been overtightened and was compressing the spring too much

found out why my 4 wheel drive is high hasnt been working!!

at last i had a chance to get underneath and have a look.

there is a little metal cover that protects the end of the selector springs inside the transfer box. this had 2 large dents in it and it was a bit skew wiff, i un-did the bolts and gave it a wigle and it slipped back into the peopper posistion and now the 4 wheel drive in high works. the dents in the cover were holding back the spring inside i think thus preventin accessing 4x in high.
it is now working however i need another metal cover as mine is badly dented. has anyone got an idea where i can get one?
cheers yannis

It's what a hammer and anvil and a vice and big flat files are for.

Maybe even a side-grinder.
