Hello all I have just purchased a 1995 4.6hse and it has been straight piped by the previous owner. I haven’t got her home yet and she needs an MOT before she can be used. With the centre silencer straight piped but the back box remaining is it likely to be too loud for MOT?

Think you should be okay. My tester probably wouldn’t be bothered about a centre pipe instead of a box. No cat or leaks he would draw the line.

I’m presuming it’s not stupidly loud?

It’s not stupidly loud no. It has a more noticeable V8 throb than normal but we could hold a conversation over it without raising voices. To be honest it’s no noisier than my old 300tdi disco. I can’t wait until it gets here it’s my first V8! With petrol prices so high it seemed to me the ideal time to buy one.

Colour coded bumpers on a '95? Must have been an optional extra.

Straight pipe will be fine, mine wasn't that loud without any exhaust ay all.

A nice janspeed system sounds good.

I had a 95 many years ago and that was coded bumpers as well.

Shouldn’t be too loud has to be obscenely loud for it to fail the back box will quieten it down a lot

Really? We ran MrGorsky's 4.6 with no exhausts and it sounded like a drag racer tearing up the strip. After one pass down the High Street we decided to hide until the glass had been cleared up.

Mine still had the cats, but no it wasn't that loud..

Mine has the centre silencer removed and it has gone through the MOT with several different garages over the years. One year the tester did put exhaust noisy on the advisories.
