Hi,

I have a 4.6 Range Rover which keeps blowing the heads, last year the first engine went, so we bought a second hand one and well it was f***ed too! So we came up with a plan of using the old block which was ok and the new heads which were ok, we fully rebuilt the engine and replaced all the shells, gaskets etc but it only lasted 4 days and the heads are gone again, think maybe the compression is too high! does anyone have an idea of what to do next? we are currently looking for either a 4.0, 4.2 or 4.6 to try again but dont want the hassle of changing the engines again if the next one goes aswell!

My other question is, A bit ambitious to say the least! But would it be possible to fit a Ford 7.5 V8 running on carbs into the Range Rover?

Cheers

Lee

Physical size? Probably yes but will be very tight. Big blocks are exactly what they say on tut' tin.

Weight? Not desirable to have nearly a ton of Americas finest pig iron slung over your steered axle when it wasn't supposed to be there.

Wiring? Won't be much obvs running on carbs but speak to simtek/bodylogic be issue they know a lot about how to keep the p38 happy with the wrong engine in, and more!

Oh and by the way it would be a great conversion so definitely do it, no intention of stopping you due to sensibility reasons!! :D

Might be an idea to speak to your insurer as well. In addition to the considerable power increase all that weight is surely going to effect handling.

The overfinch had a yank block fitted so that might be a good area to research/ask politely if you can look at one :)

Considerably smaller block at 5.7 but I have read an article in a landy mag where a 7+ litre big block has been fitted albeit to a defender but it did work very well...

I was meaning the overfinch might be handy to look at regards wiring it up and more importantly make the car work with a more simple engine system.

Physically fitting it won't be too difficult, just get a bulk buy on shoehorns!! :D
