My old lse is only 700 miles from 200k miles and I've promised it a rebuild. I'm fairly sure the cam is round but it still plugs along.
I'm casting around for recommendations for the work, ideally in central england. I've come across the big boys, rpi, v8developments , je, turners etc but as I'm only after a rebuild back to factory output it must be within the realms of lots of places.
I've had a quote and I've no doubt it would be a good job but its quite alot so due diligence means a few more.
I want to keep the same block to keep the numbers etc and it needs to be reliable for the next 100k miles.
So any suggestions?

I'd ask Richard Turner to fit a set of top hat liners to it and do the rest of the rebuild if you want another 200k out of it.

I'd have loved to been a fly on LR's boardroom wall when the stats. regarding the slipped liner syndrome were revealed.

I used John Eales in Lutterworth for my rebuild - obviously it was a bit more than you're looking at, but still within the rang of stuff he does I imagine. Besides, you're probably not after a rebuild to factory standard, as you'll want the slipping liners defect fixed -so top hat liners.
 
If you would go as far as Rickmansworth I would try Harris Mayes country cars - they looked after my LSE for years until I sold it so are very familiar with the engine. Peter Harris Mayes is the guy to speak to - 01923 711800, they still look after my Defender and I've no complaints
 
Despite the mileage. If it runs ok with no issues and you aren't wanted to rebuild for more power. Then I'd be tempted to just chuck a new cam and followers in it. Any good local mechanic should be able to do this. Although one who is more old school and maybe worked on RV8's would be a bonus.

You know, if it ain't broke.....
 
Sorry, but at 200k,its going to be more than a cam and followers. All the shells are going to be back to the copper - and likely a scored and oval crank.There will be bore wear and the pistons and rings will be well past their best. Rover v8's are not good at high mileages,esp the 94mm bore variants.
