Philip (No2 Son) got his D2 engine running yesterday, it was a replacement for the original which had done some enormous mileage and had been run with no anti-corrosion coolant, so lots of rusted pipes and stuff. Rear main seal badly gone, but still went reasonably well.

We had a spare engine (as you do with Landies) so swapped heads over, they were skimmed last year, new front cover and oil pump, new rear main seal, new camshaft and followers, new front seal on the auto box etc.

Also fitted a Zavoli LPG system while he was at it. That involves a lot of electrics wiring, but he had mine to copy, and it won't be running yet as he has other work on it to finish it off.

Didn't want to start at first, and the fuel pump is so quiet we weren't sure if it was running, but we decided that the tank was probably empty so shot 5 gallons of fresh petrol in, took the plugs out and motored it over to clear the old fuel in the lines and off it went.

Rattled like hell until the oil got around the lifters, but sounds very nice now it has settled down.

Despite having a diagram of the plug lead layout he managed to get two cross over, but is sounds nice and burbly now it is sorted.

MOT tomorrow, fingers crossed, then he should be meeting up with us at the LZ10 bash.

shame its gonna **** down!idea of being in a field under canvas 250 odd miles away from the beer fridge is waning..

Actually the weather forecast has improved since Monday, and the site shouldn't be too bad, we haven't had a lot of rain out this way.

Just got my spare set of wheels & tyres out ready for the MOT, his originals aren't that good, need to impress Mr Young (MOT tester, who is 'Old School' on MOT's and knows his stuff)

Talk about a comedy of errors!

Overheated on the way to the MOT, passed MOT OK, no advisories.

Philip fitted the thermostat wrong outlets to wrong hoses, I was working on getting the trailer ready so didn't have time to check over his shoulder.

Once refitted properly, job done, then his oil cooler connection blew off in the middle of town at a set of traffic lights.

Hauled him back, then got on our way as we were late leaving, and the big trailer isn't the fastest thing on the road.

He made it OK, but I had even more grey hairs than I had before!
