fix it

ok guys just managed to pull both heads off my p38 4.0.

Only to find both head gaskets were ok but 2 of the bores are full of water.

So my question is were could all this water have come from?
Because the gaskets had no signs of braking. and the liners have no signs off dropping or cracks in them.

:confused::(

its not liner that cracks but aluminum bore behind liner,are exhaust ports clean on those cylinders water vin combustion chamber often washes ports and piston crown ,if you didnt drain block first before removing heads can fill bore with water

,if you didnt drain block first before removing heads can fill bore with water

Nope didnt drain it so that wear the water came from.
I did wonder how the **** it would have run with all that water in there.

Next question is how do i tell of the liner are ok or not.
thanks btw.

you cant ,unless you make metal clamps with rubber gasket to block off water ways on block remove front cover and make plate with tyre valve pulled through sealed again with rubber gasket half fill block with boiling water and pressurise with air line if cracked it will bulbbly up between liner and block usually next to head bolt hole the 2 halves of block arent connected water way wise with inlet manifold and front cover off,luckily there are only 3 x holes to block 1 at front 2 on top 1 each end

ok now im worried that iv brought a lemon now.

that sounds like a lot of work are that common the fail though.

if overheated yes ,if i was buying v8 with suspected head gasket fault ,,iwould think blocks cracked as very common fault but not all do
