Hi
Have been trying to look up if the removal of the catalytic converter on a 300tdi will cause it to fail the mot with differing results. Some say it will fail but others say it will pass as it is a diesel. Does anyone have the definitive answer?

You need to be sure that the thrust re-uptake inhibitor is removed.

I have only just got a land rover and am new to using forums. Have tried searching and only seem to be getting more confused as some say you will fail the mot and some say you wont. please can you advise???

Its been a long time since I looked in the engine bay

I forget things

as well as the bilateral discombobulator if you forget about that it will defo fail

There's no such thing as a catalytic convertor on a diesel. It's a particulate filter.
It will pass, provided the emissions criteria of the test are met.

Its not a daft question since the MOT rules have just changed. My MOT centre said my TD5 will fail its next MOT as a result of the new rules coming in this year.
If it was originally fitted with a Cat then it has to have it.
There seems to be some discussion about whether the rules really apply to diesels or only petrols.
And, are you sure its a particulate filter. If so, why does the Low Emission Zone in London require pre 2002 (approximately) diesels to be fitted with a particulate filter if they've already got one?

As long as it passes the smoke test then it doesnt matter what is fitted. This is confirmed for the new MOT tests as well.
