Whilst working on the brakes today, I spotted this stray plastic pipe near the vacuum pump, it seems to run along the transmission tunnel, but not sure where it goes, what it should be connected to at the engine side. Any ideas?

Could it be a vent tube for the gearbox or transfer box? It looks about the right size

They normally have a U shape to the top, but who knows whats happened in a previous life.
