Hey all....question about the waxstat adapter on the 300tdi...is it feasible to use silicone sealant or fashion a gasket in place of the standard o-ring

Its not an O ring, its square section with a groove cut in it for the stat.
I would only consider other methods as a get me home bodge, a new thermostat with the correct gasket is only £3 ish

Well......the o-ring is hard to obtain where I live and trying to use one from a kit has cost me two adapters already....so I was wondering if it was possible to simply make a gasket to replace the seal

Well if that's case good....but if it doesn't would the gasket paper and silicone work? I ordered an original adapter....but not sure if the seal would come with it....also....is it possible to get the dimensions of the seal as I have both the lower and upper gasket rebuild kits but can't seem to find the correct one

you can just rtv silicone outlet to housing as some do when removing the thermostat, obviously its better to have thermostat sat in the seal ,but you can run with it unsealed

Ok thanks Mr Martin....once again you've been much help to me....I don't know if u remember as u comment on much of the topics here...I had a 300tdi that kept overheating....I bought a 300tdi turner unit....but this has been the only issue since....thanks again Mr Martin

Good day everyone, fitted a new waxstat adapter and sealing o-ring....noticed today some oily residue where the o-ring sits....is this normal or do I have to change the seal once more
