Hi All,

I know this has been mentioned previously and I do apologise but just trying to clear up different answers.

so my defender had a replacement engine put in, but I don't know if it was a newer or older tdi. Is there anyway to identify rough year of engine or not really. if there isn't does a later kit bolt straight on or was there further modifications that need to be carried out in order to fit the later style pulleys and tensioners?

many thanks
Kyle

early engines had no lips on the crank pulley but did have guide lips on the tensioner, its the other way round on later engines just swap the pulleys

Ideal James many thanks yet again. so I will be fine ordering a later style kit as it all just bolts on. nothing septic that must be changed before hand

no,moving the guide lips to the crank pulley it been the driver helps keep the belt running true
