Hi guys anyone got temp guage for 300tdi sitting gathering dust they would like to move on or

Has anyone swapped guage over yo an non OE variant that works off original sender? If so what you swapped to?

I may have a spare in my pile of parts gathered for my rebuild after the fire. I am away this week so won’t be able to check until next week. How urgently do you need one?
 
If you want a gauge that really works and is accurate get an aftermarket type that reads in numbers degrees. Tim and Durite are well known makes. Electric and capillary types available.

Current guage not working in as much as its now showing well past the Hot end when you turn ignition on (I suspect I damaged it trying to get the green piece of plastic out at the end of the long since gone bulb holder - lesson learnt) currently don't have any heating issues, but obviously would like to replace sooner than later, so once home if u find you do have one, just let me know, many thanks

So the 'sensor' is a thermistor, a resistor than changes it's resistance when it gets hot.
High resistance when cold low resistance when hot.
The higher the voltage reaching the coil in the gauge, the hotter it reads. if the sensor fails the gauge reads hot.

If your temp gauge moves off cold (towards hot) there is (likely) nothing wrong with the gauge.

The minute ignition is turned on even from cold, temp guage goes up past the red and just stays there, doesn't move, obviously it drops back down to zero when ignition switched off.

Prior to me removing the piece of green lense that was rattling about inside it, guage was working 100%, when hot would travel up to just below half way and sit there, hence the reason I think I've damaged internals pulling out the green lense.
 
So .. try disconnecting the sensor - what happens ?
Then touch the cable to the engine block ....

Did buy a capillary gauge (with adaptor) at the time but thought the tube may get damaged over time so went for the electric option instead.

The most shocking thing about that pic is the mileage! Guessing by the warning panel it is a long way from new and it barely run in.

I have a durite rev counter fitted to mine and can agree they are very good quality items. I looked at their volt meter but I don’t like colour scheme it doesn’t fit with the other Land Rover gauges. You’re ok as you have swapped all of them.
 
As with many LR's, mileage is completely irrelevant on this vehicle!
Bought in 1999 ex-MOD with KM speedo so immediately bought a (used) MPH speedo which showed 43511M, the rest of the mileage has been added by me over the following 23-years.

Only about 5% of the vehicle remains original and almost everything has been replaced with brand-new parts over those 23-years. :D

Do you know what number the gauge is Litch and what thread the sender is for a 300tdi?

I like the look of your dash, but then I think your truck is stunning.
 
I think the thread is 1/8 NPTF and that is the one supplied with the gauge.
Fitted it several years ago but absolutely certain it screwed straight in and there was no messing about trying to source a different sensor.
Certainly no adaptor was required (I bought one for the capillary gauge which used a different thread but didn't go down that route in the end).

After 35-years of LR ownership (and 24-years of this one) it is time to hang up my keys.
Will be advertising when the time comes but starting on these forums (where I expect I will get told many times that it isn't worth what I am asking etc etc......) :(

Whilst I would love a truck of your quality I certainly couldn't afford it. It does look like it's virtually like new - well better than new actually.

When it comes to that time, good luck with the sale.

Unfortunalty that is always the case. The amount of time and money you put into them to make them nice will never be recouped and buyers don’t appreciate the difference between one like yours (and hopefully mine when I have finished removing the fire damage) and one that has just been give a bad spray job and some polish to tart it up for sale.
