hi all
my 300tdi motor is screeching, around the belt tensioner, water pump bearing area, i havent taken the tensioner off yet, or examined the pulleys or bearings.. is it a straight forwrd job , to take the tension wheel off ,remove the tensioner, & replace it?? do i need to remove anything to get it back into place??are the bearing replace able or is it a unit i need ??

i never done it before, i am an engineer, this is how it looks to me..

cheers all & happy motoring ;)

Removing the tensioner is a piece of ****.. Theres been some threads on this very subject recently.. I'll try and find em now so you can have a read.

To replace tensioner on 300 tdi
remove top of fan shroud,
release tension on drive belt by rotating tensioner swing arm anti clockwise and slip belt off alt pulley
undo centre securing nut on tensioner assy slide tensioner assy off stud and manouver clear of fan shroud
refit is reverse .
takes about 20 mins to do HTSH :)

Thanks ;)

ok, after removing the tensioner, & checking the bearing for smoothness, & simply turning around the jockey wheel on the tensioner, reattach & put it back on the car, all is well.

remember if ya doing this ya self,

place a 15mm socket & tension bar on the jockey wheel nut, take out the tension on the arm, remove the belt from the water pump wheel 1st, (then do in reverse to replace,) with the tensioner in place 1st , 15mm socket on the wheel nut, take tension off, replace belt & hey presto !!

heres fingers crossed... :)

'its a love hate thing !!'
