My 1995 300 tdi discovery with a manual box has a random idle problem.

The revs fluctuate up and down at idle by about 150 rpm each way. Its not the rev counter its the engine as i can hear it in the engine noise.

It seems worse when cold. Any idea what it could be?

i would be changing the fuel filter and checking the lift pump,valve clearances could also cause uneven idle

I did the fuel filter about a week ago but made no difference. Ill grab a new lift pump when i next get paid and reset the valve clearances. Cheers for the advice.
