Apologies if this is a stupid question, also, I can't find it on FAQ's. My 300tdi manual engine needs to come out, it's leaking oil, smoking and generally rough. Just done a 1500 mile trip with a caravan and it's at 200,000 miles so it's a bit tired. Anyway, question is this; can I put a second hand engine from an auto into a manual? There is an auto low mileage disco for sale within striking distance but don't know if it matters whether gearbox is auto or not?
Would appreciate any advice, with much thanks,
Danny

Yes the basic engine will fit. you'll obviously have to swap the flywheel/clutch and probably fit a spiggot bush to the end of the crank

Some autos had electronic fuel pumps that were wired to the auto box. If it still has that eletronic pump you might have to swap over the pump and maybe the injectors. Supposedly the injectors are different but my auto engine runs fine with a manual pump and the original injectors.

Are you going to buy the disco just for the engine as I need a few bits n bobs of the shell :D

Im next to faslane I was considering going to the games this weekend ;)

Not even had a look at it yet mate, if I do it won't be till next week sometime, if it all works out I'll message you.
Enjoy the games :)
