Recently had injection pump changed at a workshop if it's worth mentioning, although I had this problem before. When I turn the engine off, after a few seconds I can hear some gulp gulps which I believe could be an air leak somewhere letting diesel flow back down the lines. When I start the engine after a few hours of turning it off, I have to crank it for about 5 seconds maximum. After half an hour it starts in 1-2 seconds. After a few minutes it starts instantly.

The reason I had the pump changed was because it was leaking heavily unto the ground and would make starting extremely difficult. Doesn't leak anymore and starts miles better, but there is still a problem and I don't know where to start with it. Where is the no return diesel valve located on the 300tdi?

Also any other ideas appreciated, thanks.

What is your return pipe off the injectors like?
Rubber ones go porous & allow air in.

Did you replace the copper washers on the pump?

Hello,

I will take a look at the return pipe. I didn't change the pump myself but I can ask the workshop next week. Where are those copper washers placed exactly?

Cheers
