yes that will be ok, loosen the bolts on the pulley before you remove the serpentine belt from it otherwise you will not be able to hold the pulley still.
would the head gasket have gone if the water pump has gone, is their an easy way of checking the disco still runs ok but the header tank level is up and down i think the pump is still working but i have water running out below it
