Can anybody recomend a GOOD make of timing belt kit for a 300tdi Disco.

Reason I ask is the last one I fitted the tensioner bearing started making a right racket after about 7k miles.

I think the last one I fitted was a dayco belt & bearmach tensioners/pulleys but i can't remember!
 
Dayco is original fitment and I have used them with no problems.

Make sure you don't overtension the belt when using the dial torquewrench to set tension as the value is quite low.
 
What a differance in price.

The last one was from paddocks where the tensioner started making a racket after 7k miles, I chopped the bearing in half out of curiosity to find that there was no grease in it!

Maybe I just got a bad un ?
 
the last tdi timing belts i got from paddocks were dayco and the pullys were B.M. but was about 2 years ago but was over the counter
 
Hello, I'm new to land rovers and have no mechanical knowledge. Could somebody tell me (without taking the **** too much) if a timing belt is the same thing as a Cam belt, and also, how do I know what kind of Discovery I have bought? 300 Tdi, 200 Tdi, Discovery 1, Discovery 2?????

Very confused!! I know I probably look very stupid but I thought I'd bite the bullet and ask otherwise I'll never know! lol

Yes Cam & timing belts are the same. 300tdi has 1 long wide flat belt. 200tdi has 2 vee belts. (3 if air con fitted) discovery 2 is a TD5

Wow, you replied quick, thank you. Is there some way I can know what type my discovery is without looking at the belts? I mean like so I know what belts or belt I need? Sorry for stupid questions...

if you pop the bonnet the belt will be staring you in the face.
 
Yes - but - the belt that's staring you in the face isn't the cam / timing belt - it's the 'serpentine' belt (a.k.a. fan belt) which isn't hidden away inside the engine !
 
Ok, so I am going to buy a fuel filter, air filter and oil filter from the paddockspares website link earlier in this thread, but I don't know what else I want.. Do I need a cam belt, or a cam belt kit??? Also, I can't find a fan belt on the site, am I missing it or do I need to buy one from somewhere else?

Erm, what else do you guys reckon I might need for a discovery I just bought?
