necessary
I would say so yes
Would that be because of the intercooler or the turbo or both ?
Cant se that it would get the oil that hot as the motors run cool dont they?
But they run cool because of the oil cooler
Just wondering as my old 2.8 Isuzu turbo didn't have an oil cooler and it towed all sorts of weights long distances with out any problems of overheating, just basic cooling with a small header tank and never ever got hot even towing on a very hot day over the Pennines. To hot oil = buggered turbo
I had an old rover diesel as a banger and I broke the oil cooler so I bypassed it, come the next race the oil boiled to clag and the turbo shattered.
but its up 2 you,
