I have recently given the disco fresh new oil, filters, zx1, millers Eco diesel etc. checked tyre pressures, brakes not binding, everything I can think of...

But my mpg is getting worse, when I bought it, it was doing 27 mpg average across town. But recently it has dropped to 20 mpg on the same journey at the same speeds etc. 50 quid gets 165 miles. Max 60 mph.

Just brimmed the tank, did a 30 mile round trip and used 12 quid. 18 mpg. That's doing 60 at night on a steady A road.

It also feels like it's surging and missing when cruising in lockup at 60 mph.

Anyone have an idea at what might be up?

Just a thought when I had my 300tdi It did the same. I then changed the injector leak off pipes and it was back to normal. I've just done a full service on my Range Rover and new leak off pipes were included and again big difference. Hope this helps you.

Good luck

Settled at 18mpg now. not good.

I am probebly asking a daft question here, would the sedimenter cause issues like this?

It does not feel that under powered, but its hard to tell as its an auto so any missfires or lack of power are fairly well hidden.

The last time I had a car drop economy that drastically was a fuel leak.

Despite the strange smell of petrol coupled with that, it was a good week before I noticed! :D

Solved it I think. Sedimenter seals were leaking, and sedimenter was full to the brim with crud. Will see how it does now.

Keep us updated - I will try to have a look at mine this week too, considering my mpg since buying it has been roughly what yours dropped to! :p

Also, the air filter was completely full of water and dirt. I noticed the previous owner had drilled holes in the bottom of the air box, letting all the flood water in. Just binned it and driven to southampton, goes like a stabbed rat now and econemy seems much better! (Yes i no driving without a filter is bad)
