Has anyone got any experience of putting the Engine, gearbox, transfer box and rear axle from a 300 Tdi Disco into a 1987 Ninety. Have a garage who are going to do it for me, but I know nothing about it. The Disco is tatty and I want a ninety that can be modified. There is nothing wrong with the powertrain in the Ninety, am I wasting my money. Also if I fitted a lift kit would I need different parts for the rear axle lift, rather than just buying a standard Ninety all in lift kit.
Thanks Daf

hi daf
a mate's had this conversion done a while ago, the engine and gearbox anyway. i'll see him later on and find out what was involved if you want. just from looking at it i'd guess it sits a bit further back so probably needs new mounts fabricating??? i didn't notice any mods to the bulkhead or gearbox tunnel though. i think the axles would be a straight swap, but i'm sure someone will correct me if not. it does make a hell of a machine though, as i found out trying to keep up with him up some rocky bits, seems pretty unstoppable.
the lift kit i'm pretty sure would just be standard cos it's only springs and shocks innit??
hope this helps

Rick,
Had a look on the net and there were some articles on similar swops. But mostly just engine and box. Yes I have also heard that this combination makes a hell of a machine. thanks
