Firstly let me apologise for being . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . not very smart :D

I've recently got a 300 TDI disco and this morning one of the belts has shredded.

It's not the main belt (phew) although has obviously taken a bashing and will have to be replaced.

My problem is I don't know what this other belt is called, couldn't read any numbers on it because it really is in slivers.

My Haynes Destruction manual (stop laughing at the back please) doesn't help, surprise surprise.

It seems to run the Turbo unit and by the looks of it will need the main belt off before it can be replaced.

Any help you knowledgable chaps might be able to offer would be appreciated.

Cheers

Jay

Hiya Jay, think you might find your air con is not working. That belt should be driving the pump for the air con. It's quite easy to replace, however, you will have to take the other belt off first. Might be an idea to put both back on new while you're at it.
Good luck!

the turbo unit is mounted on the exhaust manifold and is driven by the hot exhaust gases. there is no belt anywhere near it.

mudplugger is prob right in saying that its most likely the air con unit pump, drive belt.
