Hey all, another post from me regarding the auto box on me 300tdi, had to repair the dipstick tube on the auto sump whilst doing this i replaced the filter in the box fitted new gasket and filled her back up with atf, before this the box was nice and smooth, changed into second around 2k now however when its cold it wont change up till almost 3k after 20 mins or so it seems to settle down the gear change starts happening at steadily lower revs till after 30 40 mins its back to the way it was before i done the work.

First time i used it when it done this i thought i would use 1, 2, 3 see wot would happen as im not used to auto boxes but it wouldnt change out of first, i did have to move one of the gearbox mountings to get to the sump bolts and this mounting had an arm going to the gearbox attached to it which i didnt take much notice of and tbh i dont even know what its for any ideas or suggestions would be happily received.

I have been told that it will probably settle down as its just cos i changed the gearbox filter, ive also been told that some range rovers do this on warmup but they didnt know if it was like this on the discos

Hi Sorcy, as you know I have a '98Tdi300 auto like yours and when cold, mine doesn't like changing from first to second, tends to hang a little which I believe is quite common.

On mine though it only lasts for maybe 5 mins if that.

I suspect it will settle, but this is why I didn't change the filter on mine as accepted wisdom seemes to be divided about the wisdom of changing filter screens on these auto boxes.

Cheers

Dave
