hi

I'm going to buy a second hand full 3 door roof rack and was wondering do you get any noise from them whilst on a motorway etc please

if so are you able to stop the wind noise, humming , etc

then will any lockable cross bars fit on them as , i.e. halfords etc

as the boot isn't very big on the 3 door when we need extra storage space, have been looking at the roof storage units but don't need it on there all the time

i understand i could get noise whilst the storage unit is on the roof but its mainly if theres noise whilst just the roof rack on its own produces any noise please

thks guys

are you talking about the roof rails that bolt beside the tailgate and go up and over the roof and then bolt next to the sun roof ?

if so, no noticable noise at all from them, when the cross rails are on they make a bit of a noise up around the 70 mark, and then naturally, whatever you have on the roof can make a bit of a racket depending on what it is.

like these ?

Genuine Landrover freelander 1, 3 door roof rails rear cross bar with fixings | eBay

have had these on mine since I first got it with no noticeable problems or noises. some of them (mine included) look like they are splitting down their length at the rear, but it is actually just the thick paint coat shrinking a little with age.

I get quite a lot of noise from mine but only if I listen for it ,after having the roof rack on this and the previous car I have gotten used to it,

Mine standard roof rails don't make any noise until i fit the cross bars
Then they start whining at around 38MPH

Does your head in after 5 miles but I need em for work and they aren't on all the time

thks guys and yes thats the one that goes down the back as well

on my old work van , i put pipe insulation on it and seemed to quieten it down a bit ,

see the roof rack has 17 bids already on ebay , very popular

will get the other bits done first then will look into getting one

also seen where people have put lights, beacons etc on them and just dropped the cross bar on and plugged it in and have the facility to take them on and off as required

thks again

hiya

cheers guys what would u like for the bars please

great shame you cant get the rails fitted like the 5 door model and not having the bars going down the back

am seriously interested in the bars guys and if u would be so kind to let me know what u would like for them will see if i can buy them off you as would be fantastic to put them to good use etc,

will have to check my piggy bank again, lolol

as i intend to get 4 x cross bars, one set for the box and another for the lights, beacons etc as i can pre wire them all up and just drop them on and off as i need them , click and play, lol

please feel free to pm me

your gents as always

I have a pair of roof bars that are up for sale, as well as four custom made clamps to go around them to provide light mounting places. Happy to sell the bars for £20 and the clamps for another £15 + postage.

WOW they still go for a fair bit im glad mine only cost £60... might have to sell them and make some money lol

Hi,
I have been thinking lately about getting 5 door roof rails....doing a bit of cut/shunt & joining them to the 3 door rails...

The 5 door rails would still fit in the front so overall you would now have a full length set of rails....

Might look good (idea is PAT PENDING:D:D:D)

Cheers:)

with the 3 door rack fitted, can you still take the roof off?

if anyone has a mashed up set, Id be interested in the front fixing part, want to make up a rifle rest somehow for when the lids off.

yes i have racks fitted and you can still take the roof off bit more faffing sliding it through the side but still possible
