First of all ..hi people...been a while! So the dreaded 3 amigos came up in my disco 2 TD5 last week so investigated both front wheel bearing assemblies and found the passenger side shot to bits so replaced both fronts and jobs a good en but question is will I need it to be taken to have the fault lights cleared or should they have gone off when I plugged the new ABS sensors in? Any help appreciated
 
Hi, normally if the fault was rectified only the ABS should stay on alone untill the vehicle exceeds 10mph but i've seen rare cases when a fault code clearing was needed too

Ok thanks for the reply.... I had no warning lights previous to me discovering this **** bearing ... wonder if it's thrown me a double whammy ..... won't hurt to get it plugged in and read I suppose.

You should have told so from the beginning... If the warnings were not there before and they came after the hubs were fitted you'll need to read the fault code

Sorry I meant that the warning lights came on and this is wot I found...so replaced both fronts and the warning lights are still on.... just hoping that I can get them erased and they stay off.
 
As @sierrafery will no doubt tell you is that seeing the 3 amigos and immediately starting to replace random wheel hubs is probably the most expensive and least efficient way to go. By the time you've replaced all four hubs, you could have gone out and bought a Hawkeye.
There are generally two main causes for the 3 amigos and a faulty wheel speed sensor and hub is just one of them. The other main cause, there are some others but they don't show up very often, is the Shuttle Valve Switch plate, or the connection to it in the ABS modulator.
The only way to definitively diagnose the problem is to read the codes.
 
I had to have mine plugged in to clear the fault codes for the 3 amigos to bugger off,
Mine had a knackered front left hub, and the PO had covered the leds in black silicone to hide the faults fault code for the front left hub cleared and all been good since, I did the shuttle plate mod to prevent furture faults

Hi Brian thanks for the info.... the only reason I decided to change the front hub is because there was a grating noise coming from the front that started not long after the warning lights came up which led me to believe that the wheel bearing had collapsed or maybe the inner pad had worn to the metal soon as I jacked the wheel up and gave it a shake I knew the bearing had collapsed so thought it be best to do both fronts as a pair..... hopefully I can get plugged in and get the codes erased and then not come back on with a bit of luck lol
