Hi all. I own a Disco 2, but a friend has asked me to service a Disco 1 V8 with a few "starting issues". I am awaiting my RAVE manual for this model as I only have one for the Disco 2 and the engines are slightly different.

Firstly, as well as replacing all usual "service items", plugs filters etc, I would also like to replace the engine injection temp sensor on the engine. I believe, after reading through various posts on this item, that it could be causing the poor starting and high fuel consumption problems the vehicle is getting.

Can anyone tell me how much roughly one of these sensors are and how easy the replacement is? Also, is the throttle body butterfly serviceable (ie) able to be cleaned/decoked etc with minimal ease?

And finally, with reference to spark plugs, I have been told a non gassed V8 would be better running on NGK BPR5ES plugs instead of BPR6E plugs. Is this correct? Any advice on this would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance.

Coolant temp is about £20 genuine and the fuel one is about£80 genuine, I wouldnt buy non genuine bits I have had too many problems!

Many thanks. I spoke to Ottons today re the inj temp thermistor and they quoted £31.00 I was quite surprised.

Why change the sensors? Have you tested them and made sure they are the problem?

The starting issue could be a sticky stepper motor, a weak or failing coil, a weak battery, incorrect fuel mixture etc etc.

Give it a proper service first, check the ignition timing and go from there. BTW Fett is right, use genuine parts wherever possible especially distributor cap and rotor arm.
