My '93 RRC turns over no problem but there is no spark from the HT leads and no voltage across the coil, the distibutor is new, as is the coil. One problem is that whoever had it at some point had put in a dizzy running points (don't know why previous one must've died and he got this one on the cheap) so at the moment I have an electronic dizzy with a points coil, a new coil should arrive soon, but as far as I know it should still spark and start but the spark will just be weak?

I have been told so far that it may either be the ignition module, or that the car thinks I'm stealing it and the immobiliser is just cutting it out - but the plug are wet and the starter turns the engine over.

I have RPI's A & R amplifier so I obviously I have taken the amp of the side of the dizzy. I have found that these are quite popular, is there anything in this that could fail or cause there to be no spark.

Also because I've taken off the dizzy's own amp there is a female connector so to connect this I've had to flatten a circular connector 1mm in diameter, obviously there is a lot of copper missing from it, is this likely to affect the power of the spark (once is does spark) and is there something else someone could recommend to replace this as I went round everywhere up here and this is the closest I could get.

Ok
the first thing - you haven't mentioned about checking for actually having 12v at the coil?

If not, you need to trace back to where you do have voltage.

It sounds like you are over complicating it.

You have fuel, so rule that out.

All you actually need is a spark.

Plugs>Leads>Dizzy cap>Rotor>Dizzy>Coil lead>Coil

Have you checked for a spark at a plug?
If there isn't then check for a spark from the coil

If there isn't then check to see you have voltage at the coil, if not, you have narrowed back the problem.

Once you have found your point of missing voltage you can trace back to where the problem is

I've managed to get hold of a copy of RAVE and been through all 7 tests there's 11.7v across the battery but nothing across any of the points to the coil and no spark jumps from the coil - so that'd be the coil fooked. Odd as he coil has only done one mile, but hey ho I got a proper lucas one now. If that doesn't do it I'm into a whole world of fun!

If the ignition module is not working it wont allow the coil to work. i guess you have no positive power at the coil? how is the negative
I would of thought the points would have been earth anyway. have you tested the input or positive side of the coil for power?

Good news! (starter pack was goost, so just charged up the battery, such a noob!) Engine now sparks and there's fuel going to the cylinders - only problem now is, it doesn't start. It back fires (more of a pop at the exhaust) so I'm guessing the timing's out as the last dizzy that came out had a lot of play at the rotor arm, hopefully it's just the dizzy timing that's out and not the cam and everything else.

There will be life!!
