Hi all Im new here. Ive purchased a 95 plate disco and plan on fitting the v8 into my defender. Everything seems straight forward enough upto now...

I just have a couple of questions which Im sure you guys could set straight.

1) Is it a custom rad job if i want to use the existing box cooler?

2) The zf box has a wire fed Speedo. But my defender has a cable fed Speedo gauge. Is there anything at all i can do to mate the two and get a reading?

3) My defender frame crossmember is flat whereas the disco one is dipped in a slight u-shape. Should i use the disco crossmember?

Thankyou

Storm99 what won't fit? i know the v8 rad won't fit or are you talking about something else?
back seats out??

I did it with a 3.5efi and 4speed auto years ago

1) I used a v8 hi cap rad and separate cooler

2) mine was cable drive but nothing matched, I went to land rover and got a drive cable from the auto 50th anniversary defender! Take out your sender unit, it may use the same mechanical cable drive in the box? Never looked but it's quite normal.

3) mine was out of a range rover and I used that one.

Hope that helps a bit:)

Ye that's a help cheers. I thought i read somewhere that the ecu takes a signal from the transducer detecting movement or something that prevents engine stall when you slow to a stop at traffic lights etc. But i may be wrong. If its just a case of unplugging and buying an anniversary cable that would be brilliant.

Brilliant. I'll give it a try when its in. Think Im going to have a custom radiator made to connected t all the plumbing as it is stock. Do you know if the disco crossmember will have to go into mine and it if fits without too much messing? Cheers dom

ive had rads made (not expensive )with anoil cooler built in to each end drivers side for engne ,passenger for gearbox neat and tidy, which cross member ?seperate to mounts or with mounts to cross member .if latter needs slot or part cutting away to fit around seat box front mount brackets ,if former just bolts in

It was four bolts either side. Mounts flat to inner side of chassis on either side. Hoping it will just rebolt in mine. I think its needed to drop below gearbox so nothing fouls. May be wrong though. Ive removed it anyway just incase its needed

Custom rad being made, basically a shorter thicker cored v8 rad that will fit within the 300tdi rad/intercooler housing. £215 after abit of umming and arring.
